Retail electrical contractors — open as normal by nine.

Our retail electrical contractors deliver store, restaurant and hotel works across multi-site estates. One brand specification and installations completed between close and open protect trading throughout the rollout.

Every hour closed is revenue that does not come back

A store cannot trade in the dark and a restaurant cannot serve without power. Retail and hospitality programmes are therefore built around closed periods — overnight, early morning, or a single planned closure day — with a hard, non-negotiable reopening time.

Lighting is merchandising, not just illumination

In retail and hospitality the lighting scheme sells the product and sets the atmosphere. Colour temperature, colour rendering and beam control matter as much as efficiency — a cheap LED that flattens the product or turns a restaurant clinical has cost far more than it saved.

A rollout is a repeatability problem

The engineering on site fifty is identical to site one; the risk is drift. We fix the specification, the kit list and the method statement at the pilot, then hold every subsequent site to it — so the brand looks the same everywhere and the price per site keeps falling.

Single sites, refits and national rollouts

From one lighting replacement to a national brand refresh, the same retail electrical contractors, specification discipline and point of contact stay with the programme.

Display and feature lighting

Retail LED display lighting, track, downlight and feature schemes selected for colour rendering and beam control, with dimming and scenes configured to the brand standard.

Store fit-outs and refits

Full electrical fit-out: distribution, small power, tills, refrigeration connections, signage supplies and data containment, completed inside the closed period.

Kitchen and bar power

Commercial kitchen equipment supplies, extraction interlocks, gas interlock systems and bar services — coordinated with your equipment schedule and installers.

Distribution and capacity works

Board replacement and sub-main upgrades for kitchen expansion, refrigeration or EV, with load assessment before anything is specified.

Fire alarm and emergency lighting

BS 5839 and BS 5266 systems adapted as layouts change, with certification maintained through every refit rather than reconstructed afterwards.

Reactive and planned maintenance

Lamp and driver replacement, EICR cycles and a 24/7 call-out line — because a dark shop floor or a failed cold room is a trading problem within the hour.

How a rollout actually runs

Rollouts are won or lost at the pilot. Get the method, kit list and timing right on the first site and the following ninety-nine are execution.

01

Pilot the site before pricing the estate

We install one site first, time every task and record what actually happened. That pilot sets the method statement, kit list, crew size and realistic per-site duration for everything that follows.

02

Fix the specification, then hold it

One product schedule, one wiring arrangement, one finish standard. Drift between sites is what makes a brand estate look inconsistent and what makes costs creep back up.

03

Work the closed period, with a hard reopen time

Crews arrive at close, work to a timed sequence, and clear down with enough margin to clean and test before opening. The reopen time is the fixed point everything else is planned around.

04

Sequence sites to keep one crew moving

Geographic clustering keeps the same experienced crew on the programme instead of retraining a new team every region. Consistency and cost both improve as the programme runs.

05

Leave the site trading-ready, not just wired

Shop floor cleaned, fittings aligned, lighting scenes set and staff shown any controls they need to use. The store manager should find nothing to report in the morning.

06

Certify per site as it completes

Test certificates, circuit schedules and updated emergency lighting records issued site by site, so the estate compliance file builds as the rollout progresses.

Driver House, Rossendale

Hurstwood Holdings appointed Barrow Electrical to deliver the complete electrical package for the conversion of a vacant building into a 500-unit self-storage facility — covering power, lighting, fire alarms, data and EV charging infrastructure across all floors.

Across retail, food and hospitality estates

Each format has a different closed period and a different critical system — chilled stock, kitchen extraction, guest rooms or trading floor lighting.

What estates and operations teams ask us

For a lighting replacement or a like-for-like refit in a typical unit, yes — that is standard for us, and the reopen time is the fixed point the whole night is planned around. For structural refits, distribution replacement or kitchen expansion, one night is not realistic and we will say so at survey. In those cases a single planned closure day usually costs the business less than two mornings of disrupted trading.
By piloting first. We install one site, time every task, then fix the product schedule, kit list, wiring arrangement and method statement from what actually happened rather than what was assumed. Every subsequent site is held to that standard, and we keep the same crew moving through geographic clusters so experience compounds instead of resetting.
Yes — equipment supplies, extraction and gas interlock systems, cold room and cellar cooling connections, coordinated with your equipment schedule and specialist installers. On refits we assess distribution capacity before anything is ordered, because kitchen equipment schedules routinely exceed the board they inherit.
We work to your specification where one exists, and help develop one where it does not. Colour temperature, colour rendering and beam angle are as important as efficiency in these environments — a scheme that saves energy but makes the product look wrong has failed commercially even if it passes technically.
Centre permit systems, delivery windows, lift and service corridor access and out-of-hours rules all shape the programme, and we establish them at survey so the price and duration are real. We are used to working within landlord and centre management restrictions rather than discovering them on the first night.
Our 24/7 line is answered by an engineer and estates on a maintenance contract get priority attendance. A dark shop floor, a failed cold room or a kitchen that cannot serve is a revenue problem within the hour, so we respond on that basis rather than treating it as a routine fault.

Start with a pilot site, not a hundred

Give us one site and the specification you have in mind. We will install it, time it, and come back with a costed per-site price and a realistic sequence for the rest of the estate.
