Fixed appliance testing covers permanently wired electrical appliances that are not portable: built-in ovens and hobs, fixed electric heaters, water heaters, fan convectors, air handling units and any other hardwired equipment. Where appliances are wired via a fused connection unit or direct to a circuit, they fall within fixed appliance testing rather than PAT.

The recommended frequency depends on the type of appliance and its operating environment. For most commercial environments, annual testing is appropriate. High-use or high-risk environments may require more frequent inspection. We advise on the appropriate interval during the initial survey.
